Questions:
Q What is the site about?
A. ACLU of Sonoma County
Q. What was your first impression of the home page?
A. Clean and clear, I like the white background rather than a color. Easy
on the eyes-mind coordination.
Q. Where did you first click?
A. The Death Penalty link at the lower right corner of the screen.
Q. Did you find the site easy to navigate?
A, Yes. One of the "home" buttons didn't have the correct URL
link. See below.
Q. What is the overall tone and feel of the site?
A. Direct and straight forward without glitz, glamour or salesmanship.
Just as I like it.
Q. Were the pages interesting? Why or why not?
A. Yes.
Q. Did you find what you expected from the pages?
A. Yes.
Q. Could you find information on the Essay Contest
and Contest Resources?
Describe how you found these items.
A. Yes, by clicking on the buttons for the essay contest.
Q. What did you think of the second-level pages?
A. Very good, but... On the "Get Involved" page there should
be headings in large type above each paragraph that is offering a different
way to get involved. For example. "Contact your congressperson"
"Become a member" "Member feedback and volunteering"
etc.
On the "Civil Liberties" page the paragraph headings are also
hyperlinks. I think the type font should be larger for these headings
(it's fine that they are also links.)
Q. Were the third level links easy to find and use?
A. yes, but ... On the "News and Events" page the links to the
past issues of the newsletters do not alert the user that the files are
in PDF format and will require Adobe Acrobat to download. Some kind of
notice should be in the heading above the past newsletter links.
Same comment for the "Annual Dinner" page about having a "PDF
notice" for the pdf files for nomination forms and dinner form.
Q. Did you find any links not working? If so which
link and on what page?
What was the error message received?
A. Only one so far. The "home" link on the "annual dinner"
page had a URL for "index2.htm" which didn't go anywhere; it
should be just "index.htm"
Q. Did you see any images missing? If yes, which page(s)?
A. No
Q. Regarding download time of each page? Did any pages
take a long time to load? Not too long. If so, which ones?
A. Download time was okay.
Q. What did you like best about the site?
A. Not cluttered to the eye. Not too many colors or graphics. Easy to
read and see links.
Q. Please give 3 words to describe the site.
Clean, clear, easy.
Q. Any suggestions?
A. At the bottom of each page is the small type list of navigation links.
This is good to have, but the color of the links changes after visiting
them. The changed color is an ocher that is hard to read against the white
background. A darker color should be used for the visited links color.
Also on the home page is a "pen" graphic which isn't very inspiring.
I'd prefer a "bill of rights" or "constitution" graphic
showing a picture of a segment of the original parchment. Here's a good
picture attached for a "constitution" graphic. It can be cropped
to fit into the pen area with most of the "We the People" lettering
still fitting in.
Thanks for the GREAT WORK on the website!
Summary
Many ideas were implemented. The photo I asked
for since early October was finally sent with the evaluation. I did it,
even though they had been asked several times previously, because it made
a better webpage. The pdfs were notated as such. Colors and alt tags were
fixed. Third level inks were set as classes to make the other ones easier
to modify in the future.
